Abstract

Two leading IP Telephony infrastructure vendors – Avaya, Inc. and Extreme Networks, Inc. – commissioned The Tolly Group to examine the performance of a combined Avaya/Extreme IP Telephony infrastructure solution versus a comparable switching solution from Cisco Systems, Inc.

The Tolly Group measured the call quality delivered by both infrastructure solutions, as well as the impact that Quality of Service (QoS) has on voice traffic during periods of peak congestion on the ingress to the core. Basically, engineers directed Avaya voice traffic over the test infrastructure where it was carried by either the Extreme or Cisco switches.
