Abstract

Enterprise applications demand more and more network bandwidth. Whether the focus is big data, high-frequency transaction processing or video streaming, users require networks to deliver high bandwidth and low latency. Gigabit Ethernet ports are now the standard interface on desktop and even laptop computers and more and more servers are being outfitted with 10GbE ports. And, in some cases, 10GbE ports are being aggregated. All of these factors point to the need for switches with high-density, high-speed ports.

The Huawei S9700 series terabit routing switches (S9700 for short) are high- end switches designed for next-generation campus networks and data centers to provide service aggregation with support for 40- and 100-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Huawei Technologies commissioned Tolly to evaluate the S9700 series of high-end smart routing enterprise switches. The S9700 series includes the S9703, S9706, and S9712 models, which have similar functions. For this report, the S9706 switch was tested.
