Endpoint profiling is a core capability required by enterprises to build a "zero-trust" endpoint security system responsible for network access control, permission control, and asset management. With the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), enterprises' information and communications technology (ICT) applications are becoming IP-based and masses of endpoints are attempting to access enterprise campus networks. These endpoints vary in type, upgrade frequently, and differ hugely across industries. In addition, it is hard to obtain data samples of endpoints in certain industries. All of this makes it difficult to identify and manage endpoints in different industries. Facing this challenge, enterprises of all sizes are finding ways to apply AI technologies on their campus networks to build a powerful endpoint profiling rule engine that can maximize the endpoint profiling scope and precision.

Huawei commissioned Tolly to independently test the capabilities of Huawei iMaster NCE-Campus and Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) in profiling multiple types of endpoints in different industries. The test areas include:

1. Endpoint profiling accuracy: Tolly engineers tested how accurately the two systems can identify the types, vendors, and models of various endpoints (such as IP phones, IP cameras, mobile phones, network devices, and office devices).

2. Unknown endpoint profiling and automated expansion of the endpoint profiling fingerprint library: Tolly engineers tested how well the two systems profile unknown endpoints based on their respective fingerprint libraries.

3. Customized endpoint profiling report display: Tolly engineers compared the endpoint profiling reports generated by the two systems to determine which one can collect and display endpoint statistics more comprehensively.
