Abstract

WRQ, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to conduct this competitive test to evaluate the performance measurements that represent common day-to-day functions of a TN3270E user. Such functions include response time, file transfer throughput, graphics performance and HLLAPI performance. Until now, to access IBM hosts, companies used proprietary gateways and encapsulation techniques to carry terminal emulation sessions over TCP/IP to IBM mainframes. As companies now move to TN3270E emulation clients, they need to understand there is a significant difference in the reliability and performance of these clients. After spending large sums of money to upgrade their networks for peak performance, network administrators must consider the performance of the clients in the equation. After all, if the emulator is too slow, the perceived performance of the network from the end users' perspective is poor.
