Abstract
Extreme Networks Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate its Summit X450-24 fixed-format switch, a versatile Layer 2-4 switch that delivers wire-speed throughput across its 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports. The Summit X450-24 can be deployed as a small network core switch, aggregation switch, high-performance gigabit access switch, or as a service delivery platform for Metro Ethernet networks.
Tolly Group engineers measured the Layer 2 and Layer 3 throughput performance of the Summit X450-24 with its 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports configured in a full-mesh configuration. The engineers also measured the average Layer 2 and Layer 3 store-and-forward latency at 100% load for the 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and the two 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports. The performance tests measured the throughput and latency tests for various frame sizes ranging from the demanding 64-byte frame size to 9,000-byte Jumbo Frames. The Summit X450-24 was also subjected to a battery of Tolly Verified tests to certify a range of features and functions. Testing was conducted by Tolly Group engineers at Extreme Networks facilities in Santa Clara, Calif. during June 2005
