Abstract

Attachmate Corporation commissioned The Tolly Group to quantify the effort required to migrate to Microsoft Windows 95 first via a manual process and then using the Attachmate NetWizard automated software management system. The Tolly Group developed a common upgrade scenario to compare the manual migration to an automated migration with NetWizard. The installation costs to upgrade using each method were then established.

The Tolly Group found that significant savings in installation cost and time required can be realized using NetWizard to automate the migration to Windows 95, even with a migration involving as few as 10 PCs. NetWizard also provides tools that can significantly enhance a network manager’s ability to track software usage. NetWizard also provides the ability to “undo” software distributions, a valuable tool when PCs must be restored to their prior state.
