WRQ, Inc. Reflection System Admin Benefits of 3270/5250 vs. IBM Corp. eNetwork PC

Abstract

WRQ commissioned The Tolly Group to test its Reflection for IBM 3270/5250 emulator suite against IBM Corp.’s eNetwork Personal Communications for Windows 95 and Windows NT. The test objective was to evaluate the emulators’ control over workstation preconfiguration and “locking,” probe their session management techniques, and examine their troubleshooting features.

The Tolly Group identified those features, in an earlier exercise commissioned by WRQ, as key enablers that allow systems administrators to rein in centralized control over 3270/5250 emulator configurations. The Tolly Group tested Reflection for IBM version 6.20 and eNetwork Personal Communications for Windows 95 and Windows NT version 4.2 on Windows NT clients supporting 802.2/DLC and TCP/IP through an SNA gateway over Token Ring. Test results, however, should equally apply to Windows 95 clients. Testing was performed in November and December 1997.

The test results demonstrate that WRQ’s Reflection for IBM provides systems administrators with a richer set of centralized control functions than IBM’s eNetwork Personal Communications.
