Abstract

Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate its Promina 4000 ATM Switch against FORE Systems, Inc.’s ForeRunner ASX-1000 ATM Backbone Switch. In tests of congestion, the Promina 4000 demonstrated zero cell loss for guaranteed traffic classes. It also delivered lower and more consistent cell transfer delay than the ForeRunner ASX-1000 and remained within the 150-microsecond CTD limitation imposed by Bellcore’s GR-1110-CORE Broadband Switching System (BSS) specification.
