Abstract
Tolly Group Report #202124 (May 2002) confirms that Atrica’s A-8000 Optical Ethernet Core Switch and A-2100 Optical Ethernet Edge Switch provide carrier-class resiliency, toll-quality voice and strict SLA enforcement.
-
Rapid failover recovery. Link-failure drills showed the A-8000 rerouting traffic in 6 ms and the A-2100 in 32 ms, both far below the 50 ms carrier threshold.
-
Voice quality and latency. Across a mesh of core and edge switches the pair delivered PESQ scores bordering on near-perfect voice quality while keeping one-way latency under 3.4 ms.
-
SLA compliance. In oversubscription tests with three competing data streams, the switches honored configured CIR/EIR parameters, forwarding 800 MB to the priority flow and 10 MB to each low-priority flow exactly as the SLA specified.
Bottom line: Atrica’s A-8000 and A-2100 combine sub-50 ms protection switching, near-perfect voice quality at low latency and precise bandwidth guarantees, making them strong candidates for metropolitan Ethernet providers that must deliver resilient, SLA-backed services.
Note: Atrica was acquired Nokia Siemens Networks in 2008 and its products were integrated into NSN's portfolio.
