Abstract
Extreme Networks Inc. participated in The Tolly Group's 2004 Switch Interoperability study with its BlackDiamond 10808 (BlackDiamond 10K), the company’s flagship core network switch that supports 10-Gigabit and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with various levels of scalability, redundancy, resiliency and supports ExtremeWare® XOS, a new modular operating system.
Tolly Group engineers subjected the BlackDiamond 10K to a dozen interoperability tests with eight other switches from five vendors – 3Com Corp., Cisco Systems, Dell, Foundry Networks and Hewlett-Packard Co. The BlackDiamond 10K was subjected to a variety of advanced LAN service tests, including support for auto-negotiation, 802.1 p/Q VLAN tag propagation, RIP v1/v2, OSPF, BGP, Virtual Router redundancy Protocol, Accelerated Convergence Spanning Tree 802.1w, and Jumbo Frames. In every instance, the BlackDiamond 10K switch proved interoperability with other switches tested.
Tests demonstrate that the BlackDiamond 10K offers interoperability with third-party switches for a number of advanced network services. Moreover, the BlackDiamond 10K proved its interoperability with popular switches from a veritable Who’s Who of switch vendors and products: 3Com SuperStack 3, Cisco Systems Catalyst, Dell PowerConnect, Foundry Networks FastIron and BigIron MG8, and HP ProCurve models.
