Force10 ExaScale E-Series E1200i Core Switch/RouterEnergy Consumption Evaluation

Abstract

Force10 Networks commissioned Tolly to evaluate the energy consumption of the Force10 ExaScale E-Series E1200i Core Switch/Router.

Tolly engineers benchmarked the E1200i in two configurations outfitted with a maximum 1,260 Gigabit Ethernet ports and then outfitted with a maximum 140 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Tolly engineers then compared the energy consumption and Watts per Gbps of bandwidth results with theoretical values for similar Cisco and Juniper systems. (The Cisco and Juniper devices were not tested. Typical energy consumption calculation were based on data provided by each vendor on its company website.)
