Abstract

Fixed-port Gigabit Ethernet switches are traditionally thought of as a commodity where price alone is the key purchasing criterion. However, the dramatic increase in video multimedia traffic, data, and VoIP brings the focus back to network performance and functionality.

Araknis Networks commissioned Tolly to evaluate its AN-300 Series Managed Gigabit Switch and compare its performance and functionality to Gigabit Ethernet LAN switches from Cisco Systems and Pakedge Device & Software. Tests show that the Araknis AN-300 Series switch delivers line-rate throughput of 1Gbps per port across all 24 ports – which is the same performance as the Cisco solution and better than Pakedge solution – and demonstrates latency that is lower than Cisco and dramatically lower than Pakedge. Furthermore, the Araknis solution delivers an enterprise-grade feature set equivalent to or better than Cisco and Pakedge.
