Abstract
Advanced Computer Communications (ACC) commissioned The Tolly Group to demonstrate the effectiveness of their ISDN product set, including the Congo, Danube, Colorado, and Amazon routers. The Tolly Group examined several aspects of ISDN that are important to SOHO and headquarters use: basic dial-on-demand connectivity for primary ISDN connections, leased line and frame relay link backup, bandwidth aggregation, performance (single and dual B-channels with compression), spoofing, and remote user dial-in.
Findings
Results indicate that the ACC products tested offer a rich and powerful ISDN feature set. They employ sophisticated backup and recovery systems for leased line and frame relay installations. The backup mechanisms were proven to automatically respond to failures and minimize network down time while remaining transparent to the end user and network manager.
Further, the ACC products offer bandwidth conservation through strong data compression and multiple spoofing algorithms. These algorithms are effective in significantly reducing ISDN link charges, an important consideration for any network.
The products also demonstrated two vital and powerful ISDN features: bandwidth aggregation and dial-on-demand. The combination of these two functions offers a speedy mechanism for procuring bandwidth in times of high network activity.
The ACC products also offered rich protocol support: Data Link Switching for NetBIOS traffic, IP routing, IPX routing, and bridging were all tested without failure. In the arena of remote access, ACC was shown to provide cost-effective and easy-to-use solutions for end users.
