CrossComm Corp. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate their ATM and legacy LAN integration products, including the XLX, XLT-F, XLES, and Remote Access Router modules for the XL chassis line. The Tolly Group examined integration solutions in a number of network topologies, verified functionality of the CrossComm equipment, and conducted performance benchmarks.
Test results show that the CrossComm products offer a rich feature set for integrating ATM as a campus backbone or branch-office connectivity solution for Ethernet and Token Ring networks.
The products offer routing support, as well as a number of bridging options: source-route, transparent, source-route transparent, and translational. These features allow for Ethernet-to-Ethernet and Token Ring-to-Token Ring connectivity, as well as seamless Ethernet-to-Token Ring communication across ATM.
The Tolly Group verified that the CrossComm equipment can convert and transport SNA traffic across an ATM network between SDLC-connected devices and Token Ring-connected mainframes. This allows network managers to dedicate band-width on permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) for the SNA transport. The Tolly Group exercised CrossComm’s backup options, including ISDN and WAN dial backup, for recovery in the event of primary ATM link failure. The Tolly Group also verified basic bridging functionality across Frame Relay.
