Abstract

Avaya, Inc. commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate the robustness and reliability of its TTY over IP Telephony and compare those capabilities against Cisco System’s “AVVID” solution. The product suite from Avaya included Avaya Communication Manager 2.0 running on the S8700 Media Server and its G600 Media Gateway. The Cisco system consisted of CallManager, the 1751 router with a voice interface card and the ATA 188 analog telephone adapter.

Tests evaluated accuracy of transmission across IP networks under various conditions and using different vocoders. Testing was performed from December 2003 through February 2004.

Test results show that the Avaya TTY over IP implementation provides dramatically more accurate and robust transport when compared with both Cisco offerings – the 1751-VIC (voice interface card) router-based analog adapter and the standalone analog telephone adapter.
