Abstract

Cisco Systems commissioned The Tolly Group to provide independent validation of new advanced prioritization and bandwidth management features of its Cisco 4000 router. In tests conducted during February and March 1994, The Tolly Gruop Test Lab benchmarked Cisco 9.21 release of software running in a pair of Cisco 4000 routers. The tests validated the effectiveness of custom queuing and SAP prioritization when running various combinations of SNA, NetBIOS, TCP, IPX, and XNS across a 56 Kbit/s WAN link.

The tests succeeded in illustrating that SNA traffic can be prioritized and bandwidth guaranteed when competing with other routed and bridge protocols.
